Comet ISON Update

Comet ISON has exceeded all of my expectations this far. This is the First comet I have laid Eyes upon.  Comet ISON is really beginning to show, although it is not as bright as previously anticipated, it has experienced an outburst and brightened by a factor of 10 in one day. You can see the comet with your naked-eye early in the morning, but the moon will be lingering around the same area. On November 28th, 2013 the comet will come within 1.8 million Km from the surface of the Sun and that will enable the comet to brighten up spectacularly. The photo below is from November 15th:

In order to get a great view of the comet you will have to venture outside early in the morning between 4 a.m. local time and Dawn and look toward the southeast skies but be aware that the moonlight will make things harder to see and you may need binoculars to see it very well (even though the comet glows at about 4th magnitude, well bright enough to see with the naked eye).  Tomorrow is considered late in the week so the comet will rise 1 hour and 50 minutes before the Sun and it will be positioned near the bright star Spica and the brightest star in constellation Virgo, again, this will be November 21st, 2013. Nearby you will also be able to see the planets Saturn and Mercury, all the while, comet ISON is hurdling towards the Sun. Below is a picture of the comet’s track and positioning in the sky for future reference, it will show you exactly where to look!

In late November, Comet ISON moves it’s fastest as it flies away from the constellation Virgo, through Libra and Scorpius, and heads north to Ophiuchus. Other comets will be visible at this time in the morning skies as well, like the bright Comet Lovejoy and the famous periodic comet, 2P/Encke, which is low in the twilight.
