Voyager 1 Has left the Building!

Image: Space.com

Voyager 1, a space telescope launched in 1977 has left our solar system, puncturing the heliopause reaching interstellar space on August 25th, 2012. I thought this was interesting to add to the Adventure through Space blog because it is literally on an adventure. Just how big is the universe? Well the venture that voyager took was about 122 astronomical units away from the Sun where 1 AU is 93 million miles (150 million Km)! Voyager is so far from home that a radio signal that travels 186,000 miles per second takes 17 hours to reach Earth from Voyager 1. This is a huge achievement for the NASA program. Congratulations to all who has a part in this. I want to see what Voyager discovers next. Although it took voyager nearly 40 years to get from Earth to where it is now, I probably won’t be around for the next "big" thing.
